Google Catches 2008 Olympics Fever

Google too has caught the 2008 Summer Olympics fever. Yesterday, Google launched the 2008 Summer Olympics Games site for users who wish to stay updated with events, medals, and other happenings at Summer Games.

For the Google 2008 Summer Games site, Google has created a mashup using existing tools such as Google Maps, Google News headlines, Google Sketchup, and YouTube videos. Users have to add iGoogle gadget (widget) that will monitor and update the medals on the user’s Googlepage. The latest game highlights and information will be made available through Google News.

Enjoying the 2008 Summer Games fever, Google engineers have built a page where various services will update users with news of the Beijing Olympics. Available worldwide, people can access the information in 31 languages across 66 countries.

Summer Games Google Maps shows satellite imagery of Beijing-based stadiums and list of participant countries. Users can get events and medals updates mapped over Google Maps.

Users can also enjoy 3D video tours of various Games venues from videos embedded at YouTube.
